The Ninth Families Trip - Penang

Mom and dad have mentioned about not stepping foot on Penang for ages; therefore, the island was picked as our ninth families trip location for this year. As usual, we were travel in a big group - total 16 of us.

Unlike my last visit to Penang, we chose to stay at a beach-front hotel in Batu Ferringhi this time. We wish to let kids enjoy the seaside but alas, to our dismal the beach was less than satisfaction; fortunately there is still a nice play pool at hotel for kids to spend some splashing fun time.

Well, there was also a little mishap happened to Sarah that worth mentioning. While we were all happily playing in the pool, suddenly I heard cries from Sarah…it turned out the bottom of her right feet has pricked by a stone near the pool side. The cut was small but deep, and luckily the hotel staff was able to stop the bleed with some first aid kit. The wound is still visible until these days.

For places of interest, we’ve covered the usual hot spots that we think mom and dad will like. We went to Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang Hill and the clan jetty; Sarah did not join us for the jetty walk but she did enjoyed the buggy ride at the Penang Hill.

On the last day of the trip before heading home, we detour to Georgetown for some souvenirs. While the men are in charge to hunt for it at the streets, the ladies and kids were enjoying the cool air in a nearby mall.

Goodbye Penang, until we meet again!

Third Time Visit – Zoo Negara

If my memory served me right, we have brought Sarah to Zoo Negara, twice, when she’s still a toddle; for seven long years we’ve never thought of revisit the place until, of course, when the pandas were here. This time, Sarah’s was joining by her cousins, aunties and grandparents.

With the ‘target” in mind, we arrive at the Giant Panda Conservation Centre earliest possible to beat the crowds. We must say the centre is well run and well maintained; it had a similar setup like the one in Singapore zoo, but with a much closer proximity to see the pandas. Bravo.

And we are able to catch the animals show too. Ha, Sarah said the bird shows was identical with the one she watched during her school trip to Bird Park, but we still enjoying it nevertheless. Shortly after the show, we head straight to the nearby stall for lunch.

The sun was scorching hot; after ‘browsing’ through some animals, the group decided it’s time to leave at noon. Sarah had asked for few more stops, after which we also bought her a souvenir before ending the trip.

For Sarah who had never been to circus before, her first experience in watching the Great British Circus show was a pleasant one.

We were duly entertained for the whole evening; those performers showed us acrobatics stunts, novelty acts and some amazing performance both on the ground and in the air.

Unlike our time, we know there will be no animals in the ring; but going to circus was still a privilege for every kid in their childhood.

School Life Summary - 2016

Once a year, we try to sum up Sarah’s school life in this blog for our own records; looking back, she seems had some good time at school in 2016.

She has participated in several competitions, which were English (gold), Chinese (silver), BM story-telling competitions (silver), singing competition (gold), Chinese poem recitation competition (excellence award), rope-skipping competition (third place) and car stickers design competition (excellence award).

Prizes won were secondary…or maybe just by luck; yet we are proud that Sarah has the courage to step up, and this itself is a true reward.

Sport Day
Sarah loves Sports Day; she worked really hard during the group event last year but still lost. We saw some disappointment on her face but it is also an opportunity to let her know that “sometime you win, sometime you lose”, in life or in sport.

School Trip
She was thrilled when knowing that school had organised an excursion; and we were happy to sign her up for the KL day trip. They went to Tugu Negara, Police Museum, Batik Village and Bird Park.

Sarah liked Bird Park and Batik Village the most! She had awesome time watching the bird show and even bought a beautiful souvenir home; she also tried her hand on the batik-painting (again) during the visit.

Dancing Class
Sarah showed great interest in dancing after seeing her seniors performed during a charity dinner; she adored their beautiful costumes and the graceful movements. She just wished to be like them.

For that, we enrolled her into school dance club last year. She was fortunate to under a good teacher and had the opportunity to participate in a state-wide dancing competition (potential award). Sarah also performed in school and for a fund-raising event too.

“Computer Ranger”
Two years in a row Sarah was appointed as “Computer Ranger” in the class; the job is to help out teacher in operating the digital equipments…well, another new thing learnt, I guess.

To our surprise, Sarah was chosen to be a librarian last year. It was a new responsibility for her but she seems coping well; in fact, she’s looking forward every Thursday to be on duty.

And the job comes with a tie, which will make her looked “smarter” (according to herself).

Parents-Teachers Day
Generally, teacher was very pleased and satisfied with Sarah’s result and behaviours. She was not the top student in class, academic wise, but she definitely showed good attitude towards learning.

What more could we ask for? We were glad that she’s enjoying her school life each day, every day.
