Amazing Bangkok 2015

During the year end holiday of 2015, we brought Sarah to a short trip to Bangkok. Unlike Singapore, there is no theme park and no “bestie” this time, yet she’s going to find out why our neighbor up north is still one of the most culture-rich and exciting place to go.

The flight was pleasant, and Sarah had her first in-flight meal. By noon, we’ve landed safe and sound in our hotel room.

After a good rest we headed straight to the famous, crazy shopping district - Pratunam Market; it’s just a short ride away from our hotel and we’ve bought most of the souvenirs there.

At night we settled down for dinner at the nearby Baiyoke Sky Hotel; the restaurant which located at 78th floor offers decent buffet spread and the panoramic view of Bangkok skyline. One drawback is the building looked aged and the entrance is a bit…jaded.

The second day at Bangkok was the highlight of our trip. We’ve booked a join tour to the legendary Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and the elephant village.

It took about two hours ride from Bangkok. We stopped at a local pier and embarked on a long-tailed boat to have a glimpse of the local life on the way to the place.

And before long, we’ve reach the traditional floating market. It is just like the scene coming out from postcard, unmistakable; it is so amazing and breathtaking to see…I love the rustic and unique feel as we were browsing around the little stores on a rowing boat.

But yes, the marketplace is now influx with tourist; and yes, their coconut ice cream is still fantastic.

We proceeded to the elephant village before noon. At first we thought it was fun to ride an elephant, until we saw their face, it looked sad; after the ride, we were consumed by guilt, and we know it will be our first and last ride on this animal.

At evening, we treated ourselves with a best attraction at Asiatique Riverfront – the Calypso Cabaret show!

Mesmerizing. Extravaganza. The show lasts 80 minutes and it essentially consists of costume changes and some outrageous dance move; it might not be the most polished show, but all the Ladyboy did stand out.

Watching it together with Sarah, we feel like she has grown up overnight (LOL).

We flown back on the third day; and before that, (for Sarah) what is hotel stay without dipping into their pool?

Our short getaway to Bangkok is, well, too short; we even miss out the Grand Palace and all the wonderful temples. On the other hand, it might just give us a perfect excuse to come back in the future.
