The (Failed Attempt of) Moist Chocolate Cake

I guess my title had clearly indicated that I’ve baked a “horrible” cake.

Yes, it’s a disaster. I was enthusiastic to try my hand on this Moist Chocolate Cake at first; followed the recipe well and I was so happy that I am able to control the temperature right this time without over-baked the top of the cake.

Everything seemed fine until I tasted the final outcome. It has a weird taste or as my husband put it – “taste artificial” a.k.a “plastic taste”. Of course, the cake ended up in the dustbin.

I still do not know what went wrong but I think I will not give a second trial on it (not until I “recovered” from this fatal blow).

Happy Mother's Day to you too.
Thank you so much for your encouragement Rachel.
At this moment, I am giving up for this recipe but not others, hehe:-)
I am sure you can bake a nice and delicious cake. Give a try and you may get addicted.
Ei, I thought Yugene is planning about the visit?

Yea, I also wonder what went wrong to the cake...Hmm....
The taste of the cake really very funny and weird!

You also like to bake cake?
Actually this is not the first time I encountered failure, but it was quite frustrated and disappointing because everything look well but just the taste is so weird. If the texture is hard, I can still eats it...
Anyway, thanks for your encouragement. I will try again for other recipe.

Happy Mother's Day to you too.
Yea, I am checking with my fren who is pro in baking and see what is her advice about the ingredients.
Anyway, thanks for your comment.

I agreed, is not all recipe worked. Must get some which is more "reliable". For me, this is the first time I encountered not so "reliable" one in baking.
Anyway, thanks for your comment.

Hmm... not sure what went wrong with yours. The look is different from what I produced. I baked this to my son's Teacher's Day, and everyone asked for the recipe. It certainly look different from yours.

A photo of what I produced with the same recipe is here:

It looks quite different from yours though...

Could it be the type of oil that you used? What oil did you use? I used sunflower oil or olive oil.

Well, at least you attempted :) My brand new oven has been sitting idle for nearly 3 months now. I really suck at baking (not that I've tried)... still dare not try making anything yet haha. I'm sure I will fail at some point and dunno whether I can accept the fatal blow or not haha!

I was so afraid too in baking, but trust me once you start, you will get addicted to it.
Think positively, who knows you will bake a nice and tasty cake the first time you do it, good luck!

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

I am sure you can bake, give a try...

Don't be sad and don give up. Very good already as compare to me. (me, really pai seh wan). Despite this time was not successful, but at least has got improvement, as you said, the 'look' is already there, now only the 'taste' that is missing. never know your next attempt will turn out to be perfect. never try never know. kampateh.

Baking to me is just like science. Some ingreadient added wrongly? Nevermind. Try again next time.

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Oo, you prefer baking than cooking? You must be a good baker:-)
For me, I also hardly bake nowadays. If I do, I gotto wait till Sarah go to bed about 10 to 11pm only starts baking.

Agnes and Ann:
Thanks for your comment and encouragement.
I did contact with the person who holds the recipe. After some discussions, we think it is the ingredient that caused the prob. I have used a wrong type of vinegar.

Your cake looks yummy though. So, you found the problem already right? :)

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Mommy Gwen:
Thanks for your comment.
Yea, I knew what went wrong with the recipe but feeling a bit phobia to try again...hehe.

Lydia said...

Just my 2 cents comment, some baking chocs have funny taste.

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Hi Lydia,
Err...I also not sure about it.
But in this recipe, I only use cocoa powder.
Anyway, thanks!
