A Case of Mis-identity

It is a daily routine we walk Sarah to the park after dinner. She did not cried for it, but seeing her being “trapped” in the house whole day long, I think it is good to bring her out to take some fresh air.

Yesterday when she was happily playing with the swing, she saw a black basset hound. Most of the kids were running towards the dog and pat it. For Sarah, she also ran towards it but look at it from distance (she is afraid of dog, even dog’s bark). Then, she pointed to the dog and said: “Ba Ba”. I corrected her “No, not Ba Ba, it’s a dog dog”; but she kept repeating it, “Ba Ba, Ba Ba”.

And then finally it dawn on me why she’s calling the dog “Ba Ba” - The dog is in black colour, and her nursery song “Baa Baa Black Sheep” also shown the graphic in the same colour!

She’s now learning to talk, and she tried hard; but in this case I guess she’s little confused…

Joanne,

She is not confused, but at her stage of development she will call every "new" thing with four legs and furry "baabaa" as she first known that "thing" as baabaa.

As she grows older, she will update her knowledge/info... that's children thinking process. :D

I guess John will say "Oink Oink" when he see a cow... hehehe.

My son took a while to know that ducks come in white and yellow as well!!!

joanne, for me, i'll correct her. coz if we think it's ok, she'll confuse a little longer. ethan got confuse in the initial stage of talking too, but each time, we reminded him GENTLY. now he knows the difference between a tomato and an apple. GENTLY is the word, coz u wudnt want to discourage her rite? we are happy enuf that she is starting to talk, so encourage more. but also ensure wat is correct n what is not too right. :D

Mommy Gwen and Olive:
You know what..I was laughing out loud when I realised the reason she said it is a Baa Baa :-)It was just a funny and happy moment.

Ley Mei:
I think she is not referring to "scared", because she will pat on her chest if she feel scared :-)

Nicole:
Hehe actually I also not sure why she called the dog as Baa Baa, but is fun to hear she called it like that.
Is nice meeting you too at the Park. Jessica is cute too. Hope to meet you soon.

2ma and Kylie:
Yes, hope that she will not confused the next time she saw the dog:-)

Merryn:
I agreed with you Merryn. I will always correct in a gentle way when she said things wrongly.
Ethan confused btwn apppe and tomato? Coz both are round and red? :0)

Ann:
Yes, hope that she will not confused the next time she saw the dog:-)

Mery:
Ya, I guess she will improved as day goes by...
Yeap, Nicole is staying near by my house. Actually all the while we never meet each other, and so coicidently I brought Sarah to the nearby park, we bumped into each other.

Very good!!!! At least she has learned to identify animals and colours! :) Don't worry, this case it might be wrong but actually she has learned a lot from her trips outdoor :) Give her some time and she'll be a chatterbox!

Great point! That's what I like about bringing Sarah for outdoor trip. She has learned a lot from it.
Yeap, will give her some time in saying the right words for the right items ;-)

Clever Sarah.. she did make the effort to pronounce words and new things to you... For my boy, he will refer the dog as "wow-wow"... I guess he heard the dog barkings.. and he even put his hand forward to the dog's mouth at my mum's place - that really gave me a heart attack!

I am very happy too seeing Sarah improved her speaking skill day by day...
Sometimes Sarah also will say "woow woow" but most of the time she refer it as DOG.
Ooo....Ashton do not afraid of dogs? Sarah just cried because of a dog.
