Salmon Porridge

Smoked Salmon is something I definitely will not miss in a buffet meal; then again I have no idea how to prepare it. Therefore I had chosen something easier…

I’ve marinated the salmon (with some brown sugar, salt, light soy sauce, oil, vinegar and water) then let it sit in the fridge overnight. Sound simple, right? I got the recipe from here but I have modified the cooking method by frying it (as I am not good in grilling fish)

Besides fish, I’ve prepared Sarah a bowl of porridge to eat with; the ingredients are jicama, corn and white potato. The corn is to sweetening the porridge.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outcome:

The salmon turned out just nice and taste good. Although it looked caramised but actually fresh inside. The aroma is mainly come from the brown sugar, but luckily it dose not taste exceedingly sweet and it goes well with the salmon's rich texture.

Personally I am kind of like it, but not Sarah. She almost vomited when I first feed her with the salmon (plus porridge). Fortunately after few feeding and she was able to accept it.

Maybe I should add some lemon juice (which I’m not able to obtain) on the salmon to get rid of its slight fishy taste.

Joanne, You're great!! YOu're definitely creative in preparing food.. I'm sure I will love your fried salmon too.. After my failed version of salmon porridge I really not dare to try any new recipe for Xixi, she is toooo picky!

I also cooked the salmon similar way like yours. It was tasty. I think grilling it taste better especially if added with teriyaki sauce hehe. Finally, Sarah able to finish it..such a good girl.

Oooo, salmon is yummy! Yeah, you shld squeeze in some lemon juice. Eat the salmon while it's still hot, it will be fishy once it turns cold.

I love salmon..but here the cost is very expensive but it tastes so nice. I have tried this one with my kids and they love it too.

Ummi:
Yeap...totally agreed with you. The cost of salmon is quite expensive. I think is just slightly cheaper than cod fish.
You mean you have tried the grill salmon before? Glad that both of your kids like it.

Ivy:
Again, both of us have the same taste preference..hehe.
Yalor..I should squeeze some lemon juice on it, luckily I managed to get it today.

Mommy Gwen:
You know how to grill a fish? Share some tips lah. Hehe.
Terriyaki sauce, I should buy a bottle and try. Must taste good!

Merryn:
Ethan likes steam salmon? He is such a good boy.
Luckily mine, the flesh turned out to be fresh and tender.

Kylie:
Mind to share your steam salmon recipe?
Maybe steam is more fishy smell than fried.
Sean likes his steam fish?

KC:
Haha...mommy always think of weird recipe and cooking method for Sarah. Luckily she is okay with it. Hehe.

Kristie:
So ngam..you just intro salmon to Jayden. Was it his first seafood taken?
Seems like Jayden is not picky in food (like his mommy). Good!!

Serene:
Guess what....I am also phobia after looking at your post that Xixi doesn't like salmon. So I gotto think a way to get rid of its smell.
So, you like salmon.

My sean is ok with the steam salmon taste...

Not much recipe, Just add in some ginger and steam the salmon.. Simple preparation... I did tried to add organic tomato sauce with salmon, but sean prefer only salmon, without the sauce...

Yeah, I have tried a similar salmon recipe before, and it tasted really good .. I added some grated ginger in the marinate too :)

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

HN:
You have tried the recipe b4? Taste great ya! Sethy likes it too?
Yalah, you reminded me about adding ginger in the marinate, how come I never think of that....thanks!

Kylie:
I am so forgetful. I referred to your post, actually I have left comment before, but I just do not remember it. Hehe...
Actually if the flesh is fresh, the simplest way to do it is steaming it. Good that Sean just like it that way.

Mommy Gwen:
Try try try, and dont forget to post the outcome.

Great that Sarah love Salmon!!...Salmon is one of the fish that have high calcium n Omega!

I just cook Salmon this two days. Happen to saw fresh salmon that just 'came out' so fresh till I cannot tahan - MUst buy!!

Jusco staff told me that the salmon sell at Tesco is not Atlantic Salmon is from Chile that's why cheaper.

My hubby youngest uncle taught me to buy Atlantic Salmon...he is helping his eldest sister operating a restaurant in NSW, australia which is famous for seafood. He said Atlantic Salmon do not need to marinate, just fried!!

I want some taste on the fish, so I replace oil with butter..fantastic..just fried for about 1 - 2 mins, low heat with non-stick pan!!..Kyle love it so much!!yummy yummy!!!

I never giv Ryan a try on Salmon. I noticed Ryan dun really like to eat steam fish n he is quite particular in term of eating fish. He still prefer vege more than fish.

Mery:
I also noticed that Ryan really very good in eating vege, good good good!
If he is quite particular in fish, maybe salmon do not suits him. It has very strong taste. How about Cod Fish?

Yugene:
I also felt happy when seeing Sarah swallowing the fish. Coz I knows she is taking down the goodness of it. Hehe.
Kyle also loves it...good boy! Seems like he is not picky in food. No headache for mommy.
You bought the salmon from Tesco? I bought from Jusco. I also saw there do sell something like Atlantic Salmon (if I am not mistaken), but I did not buy.
Ooo..meaning the Atlantic type is more expensive ya? I think mine is from Chile.
Your husband youngest uncle was in some of your family pic before right? He is a mat salleh?
Woww...I have a lot more to learn from you about cooking. Thanks for your tips.

I never use sugar to marinate salmon before. I prefer teriyaki sauce. It's simple and don't have to add any other ingredients.

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Julie:
This is also the first time I used sugar in marinating meat. Personally I like it. I have never bought teriyaki sauce, but I like the chicken wing with its sauce, yum!

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Kristie:
It is good that you explore different type of food to Jayden. He is very lucky boy.
Haha....seems like Jayden has very "high class" taste. Maybe you could try cod fish, most bb will like it.

Kristie said...

ya joanne, i will try cod fish soon :) maybe dory too! thanks dear, sarah is also a lucky girl!

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Kristie:
If you happened to shopping at Sunway Pyramid, you may take a look at the Jusco cold storage. They sell very fresh cod fish. I just bought one the other day.
Dory will be a good choice too.
