Finger Feeding (... also my 100th entry)

It was a moment that I have been waited for so long...

video

Yeah!! Sarah is able to feed herself with picking up a piece of bread between her thumb and forefinger and move the bread from the hands to the mouth.

I have been teaching her to do this for the past 2 months, but maybe she was content with the ease of being fed, so she hesitated to learn the skill.

I can see now she is more ready for finger-feeding. I will allow her to finger-feed as much as possible. Although it is messy, but I believe it allows her to explore food and become familiar with food textures.

Footnote:
Wow…I feel old…My blogging system thingy is telling me that this is my 100th entry…the time has gone by so fast. 100 entries in 6 months. I’m happy with that, and hope that I can keep it up in the future.

Thank to you all for visiting my blog and leaving memorable comments to it. It is a priceless encouragement and it does keep this blog going...

Happy 100th Entry!

Weird Combination

I have used winter melon and white potato and pureed them. I said they are weird combination because they have weird smell and weird taste. I just do not know how to describe in words..

Anyway this morning when I let Sarah tasted the puree, she did not like it very much. She did ate, but not much. She even frown for several times when she was swallowing the food. So from there, I know this puree really tasted weird for her.

Therefore, I have changed my mind by mixing the puree into porridge. Hope later when I feed her during dinner, she can accept the taste.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OUTCOME:

Pheeew!! This is much more better. I have tried it myself and it does taste good. Luckily Sarah can accept it.

Baby Biscuit...or not

I always heard from my forum friends said about baby biscuit or baby bites. So I thought to buy one and let Sarah try.

When I was in the mini market, I saw this "Hello Panda" biscuit on the rack. From the cute and attractive colour packaging, I really thought it is a baby biscuit. In order to confirm that, I read the detail carefully but seems like it does not indicate anything about baby biscuit. But I still bought it home, because it really attracts my attention.

When reached home, I was so excited to open it, just to confirm whether is this really suits Sarah to eat? Once open, chehhhhh...seems it is not a baby biscuit. It is more for kids to eat, coz the biscuit has a very hard texture. It is definitely not suitable for Sarah now.

So I just cruch the biscuit and feed Sarah. But it is not going to be a daily snack, because it is very heaty for a baby.

Cheese Lover

Sarah is definitely a cheese lover.

This morning when I first let her taste the cheese, she instantly fall in love with it. She kept eyeing on the piece of cheese when I was feeding her, and she kept repeating "MmmmmMum MmmmmmmMum".

See, the power of Cheese, is just undeniable.

and the one that she has eaten within half day?"

Just Say Cheese

Yes, I will be introducing cheese to Sarah. This is the second type of dairy food I have introduced so far. Remember, I have fed her baby yogurt (CalciYUM) before and she quite liked it. So, now let use see whether she will likes this dairy too?

The cheese will be offered as a finger food. If she doesnt like the strong creamy taste, then I will modify my menu.

New Play Area

I think Sarah has started to feel bored with her toys, so she has discovered these places (under the cradle and high chair) to play. She seems enjoying herself playing there.

Although sometimes she did not have any toy with her, but she can stayed there for more than few minutes.

Anyway it is a good news for me, because at least I can rest myself within that few minutes.

Vercimilli

Priviously when i tried on cooking macaroni for Sarah, it turned out to be a failure...

Since then, I never give up thinking of cooking a suitable type of noodle and fine-tune the method of prepration. After visited Karen's blog, she has given me the idea of using vercimilli as the main ingredient this time.

As you all know, vercimilli has a very soft texture after cooked, so I think Sarah will have no problem in swallowing it. After the past experience, I realised it is better to serve the noodle with soup. Therefore, I have used carrot, cabbage, some blended anchovies, pork and a piece of ginger, in order to make a simple yet tasty soup.

Lastly, not forget also to add in the tofu and spinach.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OUTCOME:

Yeh! Sarah likes it. I think she is my No. 1 fans...

p/s: Thanks to Mommy Karen Yiau for her brilliant idea.

Mulberry Leaf (Backdated Post)

Don't worry Mommies....I am not going to feed Sarah with Mulberry Leaf. So why am I posting this picture here?

Since last week, she had some rashes on her body. This is the first time she is having it. Initially I did applied some cream and Agnesia talcum, but cant see much effect on the rashes.

So, suddenly think of an idea to make use of the mulberry tree (the leaf) which planted at my parent's house. As told by mum, by using the leaves to bathe, it will cool down the body temperature. Of course, it has other usage also. For eg, it can be used to clean the eyes if there is soreness or conjunctivitis.

I have used the leaves and boiled in one big pot of hot water. After that, the water will be using for Sarah's bathing. Actually, it has some weird smell and colour (dark green) after boiling. So, I will also add in some baby shower gel in the bath tub to get rid of the smell.

Today's already the third day she bathe with the leaves, I can see the rashes subsided.

I really hope it can works on her.

My answers:
I don't mind doing laundry, but I just hate FOLDING CLOTHES!
I just dono why, but the folding up part just makes me hate it. Normally I will take my quickest time to finish folding it. I admit I can't fold a nice and tidy stack of clothes, but I never think to improve this skills.

I think I can survive without a maid, but if Husband is consider as a helper, then I CANT survive without him. Kekek..
My husband really a very very good helper. He is good in doing house chores, for eg: mopping floor, cleaning dishes and etc .. To be honest, all these house chores normally will be done by him. I just need to cook and take good care of Sarah. I am so lucky to have him helping me.

This is a very interesting Tag. Therefore, I wish to tag my blogger buddies, they are Yen Ping, Jennifer, Kylie, Mery, Caroline, Therese, Esmeralda, Li Teng and Violet

Looking forward to see their answers.

Marriage of Convenient

When Sarah was 6 months, I have bought a box of rusk baby biscuit, but she doesnt like it. So, I keep them in my cabinet till today. Coincidently, I also have some left-over pumpkin in the fridge.

Therefore, I was thinking of not wasting the biscuit and the pumpkin, so I just crush half piece of rusk in water and mashed up, then mixed it with the pumpkin puree.

Luckily when Sarah tasted the food today, she did not noticed that I have make such a combination.

Her First Lantern (Backdated Post)

Ta ta ta ta...This is the lantern which I bought for Sarah.

Initially I thought to buy a Mickey Mouse lantern for her, but it is not as nice as this little bunny. And of course this lantern is more suitable for her as it looks more girlish.

Besides showing this nice lantern to you all, I also wanna share a funny incident when we bought the lantern.

Ok, when I was inside the shop, there was so many lanterns hanging around and I was busy looking for the right and beutiful lantern for her. She looked a bit blur and puzzled during the whole process, but I was the one who got super excited!

After chosen this lantern, I just showed it directly infront of her and said:" Sarah, see!" Ops!! She cried! I think she was just taking aback by the lantern. The shopkeeper was looking at us and smile. Hehe...

At that point of time, I was shocked by her reaction. I thought she was suppose to be happy and excited with this "new toy". Luckily, I am able to calm her down.

So, once we reached home, we hang the lantern on the wall. The main purpose is for her to get used to it. As for now she is no longer phobia with it, and even able to smile at it.

Anyway, we will surely remember this incident forever.

Potty Training (Lesson 1)

Yesterday was the first day I potty trained Sarah.

Early in the morning when she was watching her favourite nursery song, I just thought to give a try and let her sit on the potty chair. As usual I used the normal way to let her has the urge to pass motion, so I said: "emmmmmmm....". Guess what was her next action? She cried out LOUD!! I was so shocked by her cried and quickly brought her down from the potty.

So kesian her, her eyes and face were full with tears.

I did checked on her buttock, the flesh was a bit reddish. So I was thinking whether was she hurt when she was sitting on the potty? Or she was just not ready that she has to poo poo with a sitting position? Therefore, I think it is better to let her get familiar to this "new washroom" first. So, I let her sit on the potty (with pants on). Ah hah, she likes it! She sat on the chair while watching tv. It's so cute watching her sit so comfortably on the chair.

Throughout the day, although she was not manage to pass urine or motion in the potty, but I think she is still doing a good job, because at least she did not cry anymore when I put her there.

I will keep up my work in training her, as I know potty training do require alot of time and effort.

Going New Zealand ... Fruit

This is my all time favourite fruit. Therefore, I thought to introduce this fruit to Sarah too.

I have bought few New Zealand kiwifruit, as I think it taste sweeter than the other type.

What I did was (the lazy way), I just cut the ripe kiwifruit in half and scoop out the flesh. I tried not to feed the part which is closer to the seed, as it is more sour.

Sarah showed me a funny look when she first tasted it. After that, she keeps standing next to me and looking at the bowl for the fruit. Of course, mommy will also eat it at the same time..Yummy!

So for this week, Sarah will be eating fish and spinach porridge as her main food. Kiwifruit will be just as a dessert for her after the porridge.

Shopping for Sarah sake

Yesterday, I managed to shop these items for Sarah. I bought them for good reason:

1) baby jacket
Protect her from feeling cold whenever she is wearing sleeveless clothes.

2) pasifiers
To keep as stock, as we were unable to get this type of pasifier from the nearby shops.

[please see pic above]

3) slide cabinet safety lock
To help keep my cabinets safely shut. (Sarah loves to open the cabinet from her walker and peek into it)

4) potty
Will start potty training soon.

All the above items cost me less than RM100. Not bad, uh?

Gathering with Mommy Kristie and Mommy Grace

First of all, congratulation to my forum friend, Kristie for delivered a healthy baby boy (Jayden) on 1st August 2008. Therefore, Grace (my another forum friend) and I have planned for a visit.

On yesterday morning, I have brought Sarah along to visit Kristie and Baby Jayden. When we were there, Sarah was pretty behaved. She just sat on the floor and played with her toys. BUT! When Kristie's dog started to bark (the postman pressed on the door bell) she started to cry out loud.

Anyway, I managed to calm her down by letting her slurp abit of my cold drink. Hehe..

After 15 mins, Grace and her family were at the front gate. Of course they will also pressed the door bell. AGAIN she cried. But this time, she managed to calm herself very well.

Sarah gets more comfortable when she saw Rachel Jiejie walking around the house and also playing toys with her. And she can be carried by Grace and Kristie. She loves them very much.

Maybe she is still small, so she still doesnt know how to sayang BB Jayden. Therefore she will just ignored me when I pointed Jayden to her.

All in all, we did had a great time in Kristie home. I am glad to have this gathering with Grace and Kristie (first time meeting Kristie)

Her VCDs

Can Intelligence Be Increased Through Exposure To Music? I am not so sure about this, but Sarah is definitely exposed to alot of VCD which played more than 100 nursery rhymes altogether.

I have started to play baby song to her when she was in my tummy. And since she was born till now, almost everyday she will be watching her nursery rhyme, either when she was playing her toys, when she was in her walker and etc..

Her favourite VCD will be Baby Songs. And her favourite song is "You Are My Sunshine". Everytime these two VCDs were being played, she will surely sit down and watch the TV closely without turning her sight away.

The most recent VCD that I bought for her is "So Smart". It is like a "moving book" because all the alphabet and the objects are appearing onscreen. But in order to play this VCD, it requires an extra effort and time from me, as it encourage the parents to sit down with the baby while watching the video, and explore the alphabet together. I think it is time for her to study, study time!!

p/s: Mommy Caroline, thanks for giving me the idea of posting this topic.

Laughing Baby

Its really nice to see a baby laughing. The sound of a baby laughing always make me smile.

This funny clip was captured when Sarah was playing with her daddy. I can't stop myself laughing when I am watching the video.

So if you ever need some cheering up, please watch this video and hope Sarah will cheer you up...You can't help but laugh or smile with her.

p/s: The old saying that 'laughter is the best medicine'. Laughing can add years to your life and life to your years, so why not find ways to add more laughter into your life. Cheers...

Jicama What?

Do you know what is Jicama? Yes, it is "sa got" (Cantonese) or "Benkuang" (Bahasa Melayu). I only know it called Jicama when I googled it. Jicama is sometimes called the Mexican Yam Bean too..

I love Jicama very much, because it has a mild, nondescript flavor, but a nice crunchy texture. This is one of those vegetables I’ve always wanted to try for Sarah, but never quite knew what to do with it. I bought one yesterday at the grocery store and I thought I would add it into the porridge this time round. Jicama can be eaten raw, but it is always suggested to feed baby with cooked vege, so I decided to cook it in the porridge.

By the way, I will also add in some pumpkin. But since Sarah just had some orange food few days ago, so the quantity of pumpkin in the porridge will be lesser than Jicama.

Best of luck to me (for this new idea of food)....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OUTCOME:
. It turns out to be a very yummy porridge. What a HUGE success!
. Sarah able to finish a plate of porridge within 15 minutes.
