Vermicelli with Broccoli and Egg

Since Sarah has fallen sick, so it is better for her to eat something bland and not-too-rich. Therefore I have come out the idea of cooking vermicelli soup.

I have used “ikan bilis” as the soup base. When the soup is almost ready to be served, I added in broccoli and a beaten egg.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OUTCOME:

It tastes fresh yet gentle. I did not know that the broccoli played such an important role in making the soup so tasty and sweet…I like it very much! I seldom eat baby/toddler food, but this time I can finished all the leftover in the pot.

Sarah likes the meal also. What if I were to substitute vermicelli with mee-hoon or noodles that have more chewy texture, will she like it even more?

is that meesuah?? I will cook either meesuah or beehoon soup for Ryan once a week, also added beaten kampung egg. He like it and can finish up the whole bowl. I saw the brocoli u cut in big pieces, can Sarah bite? Normally I will cut in a tiny piece,so that Ryan can chew and swallow it.

Yeah ah, the brocolli seems quite big piece hor. This is a good combo. Can even put baby spinach too.

Joanne, since Sarah is not feeling well, I suggest putting the meehoon/noodles on hold first coz these 2 items are not so friendly for the little one's digestion. It's advisable to continue wid the mee suah only at the moment. That's my advice ya!

Mery and Mommy Gwen - Hehe, yes, you are right. The broccoli is too big for Sarah to chew. After I cooked it, only I realized it. Blurred me!
Anyway, today I have cut it into smaller piece. Thanks for your advice.

Mery - Yes, it is a mee sua.
Yeap, I saw that you also cooked mee sua for Ryan. Good that Ryan likes it.

Mommy Gwen - Yeap, will try to put spinach the next time. thanks!

Esmeralda - Yalor, i also thought to feed her with noodles or meehoo, c the next time, coz I have non of these in my fridge..
Anyway, thanks for your advice.

I like this meal also.... cos I am "soupy" person..prefer something hot n nice... compared to rice..

Sometimes, for Philip, when the soup got left over, I just give him bread. Bread dip into the soup n he will eat also...

So far, I also have not introduce egg-white yet.. slowly la. one at a time. only egg york.

its tasty to use ikan bilis as soup base but do remember to wash and soak it thoroughly if cooking for Sarah.. it can be very salty.

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Michelle - Yes, I like to use ikan bilis as a soup base. Yeap, thanks for your advice. I will soak it thoroughly.

Agnes - I am the one should thank you. You always dare to try my recipe for JT..hehe.
I am glad that JT likes it. Anyway, is a healthy dish too..

Caroline - Infact this is not the first time I feed Sarah with whole egg. Coz sometimes when we dine out, normally the dish we ordered will have whole eggs, so just feed her lor..or else, very mafan to separate it out.
- Sometimes I also will feed Sarah with meehoon, normally I will use a pair of scissors to cut them, and feed her. She likes it.
- Maybe you have under estimate the "swallow ability" of Angel..hehe.

Kylie - Thanks!

Su Ying - Actually I also dont have the idea of adding the right type of vege in the mee sua. I just saw a nice broccoli at the market, so thought to give a try.
- Happy trying!

Rachel - Yeap, I also like to eat soupy food, especially for breakfast.
- Ooo..philip can just eat with a bread that dipped with soup. You mean all types of soup? This is a new way of finish the soup :-)
- Yeap, take it slow in intro whole egg to Philip.

Serene - Yes, it is mee suah. I also like mee suah. I am going to cook it with mushroom tomorrow for my meal. Yummy! I can imagine eating it with cili padi...slurp!

Esmeralda said...

How do u cook ur mee suah wid mushrooms? U use the ikan bilis as base as well? Haha.. if u dun mine can post it here ya...

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Esmeralda - Ooo.what i told Serene, was cooking meesua with mushroom for my meal..hehe. I like both these food very much, so thought to combine these food.
Yeap,I will use ikan bilis stock too..Just add in the broccoli and also the mushroom.

Esmeralda said...

Yeah yeah.. I know that u r talking about ur meal. I see... so how long u boil the ikan bilis? 1-2 hrs? Hehe..

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Esmeralda - I thought you mis understood that I cooked another mee sua recipe for Sarah..hehe.
- I just boil the soup for about 15 mins, then throw in the mee sua, mushroom (the white colour type - I forgotten the name), egg and broccoli.
- Infact, I got to know from my grandma. She said, you may cook one pot of ikan bilis soup, and let it cold. After that put in in the fridge for overnight. The next day you use it for cooking, the taste is nicer. I did tried, it works!

Mummy Joanne, you are so great, always give the new idea to cook. I will try this for baby Kyle, mmuaakkk!!!

Esmeralda said...

Haha.. I didn't Joanne. I also heard from my MIL saying that if we don't have time to cook soup all the time, we can cook one big pot at once, take only the amount u need for the meal, and the rest cool it and put in in the freezer. When u wanna have soup for another meal, take it out, defrost and heat it up. But make sure u apportion the soup first so that u dun defrost the whole thing, and only use small portion. This will make the soup go "bad" easily.

Sarah's Daddy and Mommy said...

Esmeralda - Yeap, I think your MIL is right. Have to apportion the soup, or else it will go basi easily.

Yugene - No thanks Yugene. Give a try and hope Kyle will like it.
